33 Months - March 2010

So the cape I made you the middle of last month has become one of the hot items around here. You ask to wear it when we go places pretty often and sometimes we even let you. (I did manage to get you to let me leave it in the car at church today.) I let you wear it to the grocery store the other day and as we were standing in line the lady in front of us asked who you were. You told her you were Batman and she told complimented you on how nice your cape was. Then she turned to me and told me about her son that had worn a blue PowerRanger costume for months when he was your age, they even had to put it under his church clothes. Then she kind of got serious and told me to enjoy it because it goes by so fast. I know it too, and I think that is why even though I LOVE this picture of you flying to the park, it puts a lump in my throat because one day you'll be running to the park with your cape flying behind you and the next you're going to be running out the door with the keys and $20 ($20?) for a date. Just don't run so fast, ok?

You and your sister have been pretty lucky this winter and have gotten by with only a few quick colds here and there. Your dad claims it is the fact we don't live near a Wal-Mart, I think it might have something to do with me not working at the Probation and Parole office and you going to daycare. This month though you did get hit with a nasty bug and of course it happened a few days after we had been to Cedar so your dad is only further convinced that is the root of our problem. We are pretty sure it was RSV and boy was it miserable for all involved. One day you and Tess were both just acting as miserable as could be and I actually just had to laugh because you looked so darn pathetic. I grabbed the camera and took a picture of each of you feeling terrible...
You are generally pretty tough when you get sick but not this time. That band-aid on your head is because your head hurt and that was the only thing you thought would make you feel better. It still makes me laugh to look at this picture but as luck would have it as soon as you guys were starting to feel a bit better (which happened to be the day your dad started back to work after his furlough), I got sick. Now I know just how you felt when you said your head hurt and your tummy hurt. We couldn't figure out why RSV would cause your tummy to hurt but now I know!

I was feeling bad this last week because the weather has been going back and forth so often and we have been sick for over a week now we haven't made it outside to play much. We went to visit dad at his office and when we got back you begged me to let you play in your sandbox so I let you while Tess and I went inside for a few minutes (I left the door open and checked on you often...). At one point as I looked out side and saw this...
I thought you had fallen somehow and asked you what had happened to which you replied that you didn't know. I ran inside to start the bath, still thinking you were upset that you had fallen and looked out to see you lying facedown in the sand, on purpose. You are such a nerd. I went back in and grabbed the camera. And yes, your pants are on backwards. Just try telling you that though.
Strike a pose, baby boy.
You still are in repeat mode and the other day you were looking at your reflection in the doorknob of the pantry and said probably 23 times "I look like Jell-O." I'm not sure what it meant but you said it enough times I finally replied "I KNOW YOU LOOK LIKE JELL-O!" It has also been quite an adjustment having your dad back at work because now I am the only person in this house who can help you with stuff. Which is unfortunate since you simply cannot do anything without a sippy of milk or "something to make me happy." You tell me that at least a few times a day that you need something to make you happy. To which I reply that I need a million dollars. If you read this when you are older and a millionaire -send your momma something that makes her happy to make up for all those times I gave you something to make you happy.
We do love you and quite often at night when your dad and I go to bed we talk about "Poor Logan" and how you just want attention, but really kid, in all reality, there is no way we can NOT pay attention to you. You are full of life, love, piss, vinegar, and superpowers - and we wouldn't have you any other way.
Love you bud,
Mom

I'm diggin it.

Four years is nice. I'm liking it so far.

Four years is non-newlywed, non-been-together-so-long-we-don't-need-to-talk-anymore.

Four is Dave offering to do the dishes for me after dinner tonight, and me letting him.

Four is me getting him a 6-pack of Mountain Dew and a bag of Reese's for his gift.

Four is finally realizing that I don't need to make a big extravagant dessert because all he really wants, all he really would like, is a simple no-bake Jell-O cheesecake.

Yeah, I can do four.

Love you babe...

9 Months - March 2010

So earlier this month I looked at your dad and said "You know what? Babies at this stage aren't that much different than puppies." You'll understand when you have your own but it really is true. You crawl all around the house with your tongue hanging out and biting things. I'll have to try harder to get a picture of you with your tongue out when you are crawling. That's how we know you are on a mission to get some where. It is funny for us to see too because Logan wasn't able to stick out his tongue until he was about 15 months old. As for biting things - yeah you do all right with those two sharp teeth. You actually bit my cheek today and I thought for sure you had drawn blood.

This is definitely one of the funnest stages though. You are pretty easy to please for the most part and we are always saying what an easy going kid you are. That's not to say you don't have your fits when Logan takes a toy away or you don't get what you want. We've definitely seen your temper come out a little bit. You clench your little fists and grunt at us when we tick you off.

The weather has been spring-like off and on for the last few weeks and we have been able to get out of the house and go for walks or down to the park. Your dad even let you ride around the front yard on the 4-wheeler one day after he and Logan got home from a ride.

You are such a small little thing - at your 9 month appointment you weighed 17 pounds even (19%), were 27.5 inches tall (49%) and your head was 18 inches (91%). You continue to be the opposite of Logan who was in the 90's in everything but his head which was usually in the teens. The doctor still isn't worried but if you don't start eating something other than fruit and toast we're going to be in trouble.
You can get anywhere you want to and that usually means crawling under the table and chairs until you stand up, hit your head, and start to cry or heading for the bathroom before somebody beats you to it and shuts the door - also making you cry. You can stand up and push your car around the floor but you do it on your tip toes and your feet are so far behind the rest of you it looks like you are going to fall flat on your face any minute.
Another one of your favorite spots is by the computer where you pull down every paper, cord, book, etc., before moving on to the nearby diaper basket which you then proceed to empty by throwing diapers as far as you can. I guess as long as it keeps you busy I shouldn't complain.

I recently discovered a new addiction - craft blogs. It all started when I got the courage to make a dress for you and it worked out. Now I'm addicted looking at blogs with tons of things I want to make for you. Here you are trying on the dress I made for your cousin Ava and an enormous flower headband. Normally I am not a fan of those things but I wanted to see if I could make the flower and that's how it turned out. Pretty ridiculous huh? I should probably put more bows in your hair or actually do more with it than just mohawk it into a curl but that's just not my style. Simplify - that's my style.

This last month you have really gotten good at saying momma and dada. In fact today in church your dad and I were sitting on the stand because we had to give talks and during the opening prayer I had to laugh because all I could hear was a little girl in the congregation saying "Ma ma ma ma ma ma ma." I forgot how cute those first few words sound.

Logan just spent 2 nights with Grandma and Grandpa Veater and honestly, I think the person he was most excited to see was you. That boy couldn't stop loving on you. Your cousin Quade thinks you are pretty fun too - I just love the way he says "HI, Tes-SA!" every time he sees you. Your dad and are think that you might be getting close to or even actually walking by Easter which is something to look forward to in the next month. I can't wait to see what kind of damage you will do to Logan when you start being able to actually chase him - and eventually talk back!

Love you Lindy-Lou,
Mom
