We started the fall like we always do - hunting. You have become a little more interested in it this year, and I think you and your dad had a good time going together a few times while we were able to be at camp. I went with the 2 of you one night and had to get a picture of my little hunter. I posted it on Instagram, and your Aunt Lisa said something about how soon it would be that the vest you are wearing fits you perfectly. I'm afraid she's right!
I dropped you and dad off at one point to let you walk down a ridge to see if you could spook anything out. That's the best kind of hunting for a 7-year-old as being loud is more your style than being quiet and sneaky (don't worry, it's mine too. Dad took me opening morning and said "we" sounded like a herd of buffalo, but I know he meant just me.) You two didn't see anything or spook anything, but this picture as you two walked toward me warmed my heart!
Much time was spent playing in the fire where you realized that if you melt plastic bottles (or anything plastic you could find really) on sticks in the fire and then put them in water they make cool creations. The picnic table was lined with these lovely creations, and I think you even managed to smuggle one home. You also made a tree house hut behind the trailer, went on fourwheeler rides, played with cousins and dogs, and hung out with the family.
You finally finished out your soccer season which seemed to drag on due to lots of school breaks, etc., in between games. You got a little tired of it, and at one point I actually left you at the elementary school where you were supposed to be practicing but where you ended up sitting under a tree for an hour instead!
Your team did well though, and right before this picture was taken you told me that your team had a 110% chance of winning that day. I can't remember if you did or not, but you were pretty confident anyway.
We carved the pumpkins we got at the Hamblin's pumpkin patch, and of course in true Logan fashion yours was all gory and as scary as you could get it.
You wanted to be a ninja for Halloween, which was fine by me. We just dressed you in black, tied some fabric around your arms, and called it good. Unfortunately the school implemented a no facepaint rule to go along with the no-make rule, so at school your costume wasn't as easily recognizable, but I think you had fun anyway.
I found a new board game for us to play that is like one that grandma Hillier has for adults. It's called sequence for kids, and you 3 and me played a lot of it when we got it. You all got board games for Christmas too along with Uno, and it's been fun getting to play games with you guys that you understand and try to win.
We went to Cedar in early November when Aunt Bre and Uncle Boo welcomed baby Easton to the family and got to go to the storybook parade they have there. There were a lot of fun characters that you guys recognized followed up by the man in red himself.
The Saturday after Thanksgiving we went Christmas tree hunting on the Kaibab. You really wanted to help cut down the tree and did a pretty good job even with a pretty dull saw. Dad ended up leaving really soon after church the next day, so he and I just kind of threw the tree in the house and he left. I had you help me make sure it was straight by having you stand back while I fiddled with the base. I got looking at it a little later that day and realized that your version of straight and mine were pretty different! It stayed up all month though, and that's all that matters.
After we got the tree dad took us out to one of the overlooks into the Grand Canyon. We stopped there and then checked on a prescribed burn dad had been a part of earlier that week. The fire had crossed the line a bit, and you guys got to see some active fire in the forest. You thought that was pretty cool.
It was a tossup as to whether we wanted to be in the light parade on the Forest Service float or watch it, and we decided we'd rather watch this year. It was pretty small, but we had a fun time waving to our friends on the floats.
We also had family pictures done in November. Yours turned out pretty darn handsome if I do say so myself. No wonder a few of the girls at school have a crush on you!
The primary was in charge of doing "gingerbread" houses at the ward party this year, and you were excited to see a friend from school there that night. You were on a search for all the root beer jellybeans to put on your house since they were your favorite.
And even though you think you're too big sometimes you sat on Santa's lap (Bro. Eddy was helping out). You made me laugh at one point this year when you said, "I know that Santa is real because there is no way you would have bought me a basketball hoop last year."
We had our Christmas with the Hillier side of the family early in December this year, and we had a fun time spending time with cousin Brody, eating good food, and opening stockings and presents. You were pretty stoked to get some Ninja Turtle Legos from grandma and grandpa.
The Sunday before Christmas was the annual Pollock party. Santa didn't disappoint, and you asked him for the whole Harry Potter series of books. I can't say I know why since you'd already read about 5 or 6 of them by this point.
We finally got around to do doing our sugar cookies a few days before Christmas, and I let you guys decorate them completely by yourselves. Tess and Ty had a few crunchy, over-sprinkled ones, but you did a really good job on yours!
On Christmas morning we had to wake you guys up AGAIN. I swear the ONE mornign a year you sleep in is Christmas morning. We got you up and you were so stoked to see the presents under the tree and hurried to get Tess and Ty up so we could get going. We convinced you guys you should probably open your stockings first even though you wanted to get right to the goods under the tree.
And then you all got distracted by the stuff in your stocking and forgot about the presents (except for the new shirt, you took that out and obviously just tossed it there behind you.)
Tessa played Santa this year, and you unwrapped Ninjago Legos (the green ninja like you asked for), a board game, Magformers, a pump BB gun, and some rollerblades from mom and dad. We also ended up with over 2,200 Legos for the day too!
My favorite picture (notice that tree a-leanin?)
Ever since I dug out my rollerblades this summer you've been intrigued by them, and then Grandma Lori dug out your dad's old ones that were super big, but you still bobbled around in them as best you could. You and your brother and sister were so excited by those skates Christmas morning! You have had a blast going downstairs and racing around in them ever since. One day I heard a commotion coming from downstairs and came down to see this! How you guys convinced your dad that this was a good idea is beyond me, but I think you loved it. I think those rollerblades even made you forget that you didn't get some of the bigger items you asked for (Ventriloquist dummy? No way. Harry Potter books you already read and we already own? No.)
It was a true white Christmas with new snow falling that morning, and we made a slow trip up to Panguitch to Christmas breakfast at Grandpa Ralph's house where we ate sourdough pancakes, bacon, eggs, and sausage. Then we headed over to Grandpa Rob and Grandma Lori's to have our Christmas with them and your aunts, uncles, and cousins on the Veater side. You got a new outfit and some new binoculars and loved shooting your new BB gun later that day when we went shooting skeet. Overall it has been a busy and fun fall/Holiday season. I am so enjoying this stage of you right now. This year we look forward to you turning 8 and being baptized and also starting cub scouts. I don't see it slowing down any time soon, but I sure am glad I get to spend all these busy crazy days with you.
Love you bud,
Mom
